“In-Sight” (Matt.23:37-39)
Jerusalem did not believe
Which He, that day, could plainly see;
And why? It was their attitude
To “Those from God” – they were quite rude.For “He who from the Lord arrives
Is cursed indeed – it’s we who strive
To get in God’s big book of names,
As ones who know, play well the game.“Like Amos here long years ago –
Persisted saying things to show
Us how to live – he was berserk;
Now you come here, ’round Temple lurk –“We think You’re nuts just like he was;
Cursed are the ‘Folks From God ‘, because
They’re out to lunch; we are okay;
Go somewhere else with words You say.”“You will not see Me, little chicks,
Until that attitude to God gets fixed;
Until it’s “Blessed is anyone
Who from the Lord to us has come.”Yet in that context Bartam’as
With first-time-sight (he’d made a fuss,
Said, “Sight I want, I’ll pay the cost
Of lifestyle begging as a loss!’)He followed with his new-found sight;
One week watched Christ perform with might;
In seven days his “route to health”
Was killed by those quite blind as well.It’s upside down this world of ours –
Folks walk on hands – “Observe my powers;
You cannot walk the gymnast’s way,
So why should we heed what You say?”An ancient Jewish story goes,
A one-eyed man in midst of those
Who were all blind as they could be,
Was chosen King, for he could see.Condition was he’d lose his eye,
“To be like us”, the reason why;
Absurd we humans are indeed –
Life-giving sight is what we need.Thanks Lord for this.
