"Give Me That Old Time..."  [Reflections On Book - 100 Ideas That Changed Graphic Design Stephen Heller and Veronique Vienne - # 55]

There’s tension with the old in life
Where new’s allure takes up its fight
With tried and true of Grandma’s day,
And future’s unknown calls its way.

Of course, that’s “Young-old”, not the last
Of life – decrepit, lolling, cast
Aside in nursing homes of care,
’Till “suicide” the docs prepare.

Then graphic-arts will call this forth
To smooth it over, like the North
Where Inuit took ice-flow route
In blizzard, cutting off pursuit.

We love our futures, and our youth;
What’s done for product, in pursuit
Of higher profits, lower cost,
We do ourselves – with values lost.

Lord, sale of avant-guard it seems
Needs gloss and glitter – modern means
To make their worst appear as good,
And obfuscate what’s understood.

Thanks Lord for this.
