“The Hope-Full Way”

Lord, that was awesome – hope seen deep within
The lotto-way, for few who each week win;
The sub-text overwhelms me with its hope,
As I awake to words of which You spoke.

You asked me, “If you won the lotto, Stu,
Have you a clue what actions you would do?
Or are you like that farmer with no bins,
Who plants a crop believing no-one wins?”

To which I said, “I don’t think I’m prepared” –
I hit the net to fetch advice that’s there;
I was astonished! Positive its voice,
Unlike the cash-advice with somber choice.

For other guff has sub-text, “You’ll be poor”;
“You don’t deserve”; “The best you’ll get’s ‘allure’”
And if you win, it will be gone tout-de-suite –
So hoe that row until you quota meet.”

Advice starts out assuming “ill-prepared” –
“Prosperity” was not a thought they aired,
But rather, “Grim reality’s the lot
Of hoi polloi – you’ll lose the stuff you’ve got”.

But there were better thoughts up on the web;
Still not the best, but better words were said –
Advice for winners; season’s brief relief
To losers, for a spell from hell released.

Those at the top have different guidance still;
Another notch above the peasant’s swirl,
But this, at least, prolongs each winner’s game
’Till they return to steerage whence they came.

It entertains the rich, it always does;
Like Christians to the lions – there because
They dared to challenge Caesar’s being God
But now to me that is no longer odd –

They threatened status quo – the one percent,
Who rule and draw resources to their tent;
The Kingdom-layer’s freedom (or the kite) –
Affront to rulers and accepted might.

They’ll let the others rise to needed height,
But cut them off for challenge to their right
To dominance – “So bow and kiss my ring;
Then praises to divine-side of me saying –

“For failing that, then you’ll be lion-feed;
Cheap protein which my pampered lions need;
For bread and circus is for hoi polloi
And you, my friend, are to my eyes, a toy.”

Lord, I’d not put all this into one piece;
Thanks for Your giving Kingdom-layer’s release;
Grant that I courage show in face of facts
Of life round here, and satan’s evil acts.

Thanks Lord for this.
