“Happy Much?” [Philippians Series] (Phil.1:12-18)

“When Christ is preached, I happy get;
Their motive’s strange to me, and yet,
The job gets done – these chains indeed
Like stones to Christ, cry out in-deed.

“For some, it’s love, sincerity;
For some, who wish to glory see
Reflected in their role as God,
My chains and guard seem rather odd.

“Some envy me (let’s swap, I’d say!);
False motive’s theirs, which guides their way;
Selfish ambition – ‘Strive for top
Of UCC’, one said – what rot!

“For ants crawl up some blade or stock
Of Peony; may think they’re hot –
They crave its sugar for their feast;
In eating it, bud’s bloom’s released.

“So too with those who strive with me,
And in my state sense victory;
‘How great I art’, rings from C.V. –
‘Look on the works surrounding me’;

“Ozymandias, King of old –
Through ‘lone and level sands’ we know
Life was for him flash in the night
Which flared, then died, though briefly bright.

“But me? What makes me happy, guys?
Why news Christ’s preached by fools or wise –
It matters not who does the task;
‘Just get ’er done’, is what Christ asks.

“So if there be encouragement
In what you see, how my life’s spent,
In mirror look – does joy abound?
Chains sing God’s praise – in you, what’s found?”

Thanks Lord for this.
