"Ker-Whack!"
“Ker-whack” the ball spun out of sight,
Out past the ballpark – home-run type
Of hit last night – like one set free
To speak his mind of what can be.“What did they call you, as a kid?
What was the nickname where they ribbed
You when they found some funny fault
That’s stuck with you up to adult?“Have you some reputation bad?
Have you a past to you that’s sad?
Good news for you – God will supply
New name, and grace ’till day you die.“Take Jacob – then called Israel –
Three thousand years his name still tells
Us of his past – deceitful wiles
Transformed by God – which brings us smiles.“I’m God of Abraham (name changed);
I’m God of Isaac (‘laughter’ named);
I’m God of Jacob (wily one –
Not Isaac – Jacob – past now done).“So note – he limped, on crutch he leaned
To bless the grand-kids – so it seems
He was deceitful to the end,
But grace poured through, gave newness blend.“So yes, you get a name and that’s a new,
But underneath we still see you –
Now graced to life – like broken flask,
Perfume of God released at last.It’s fragrance of His life through us
That winsome is amidst the fuss;
Not Superman; denying past;
But grace of God – now that you ask.”Thanks Lord for this.
