"Juxtaposed" [Reflections On Book - 100 Ideas That Changed Graphic Design Stephen Heller and Veronique Vienne - # 51]

When animation came to filmic life,
And audio augmented black and white,
Explosions of new art emerged, have been
For all of us so far from what had been.

For us, it’s mostly sound these days
As music-video now plays
Augmenting with new contrasts brave and bold
With echoed meanings abstract art can hold.

Taking Hitchcock – lines and music mixed
Fantasia – Disney’s effort fixed
For all of us “See music; hear the art, ”
With open threshold, place where we might start.

I think of mobiles – magazines that slide
Both up and down, new stories side to side;
With clips of music, video, and scenes
Text talks about, augmenting what it means.

My stories – novels, poems, photos, art,
First new designs and games are now a part
Of digi-world, conveying here at last
Which first emerged when quest my dye had cast.

Creating motion, or the sense of same,
In black and white, or color image came
To me as challenge, using blur and thrust
Of vectored thought both quiet and as rushed.

But now with all these forms at fingertips,
I’m glad I grew, restriction in our midst;
That makes us stretch beyond the easy wall,
To make the art-form rise for good of all.

Thanks Lord for this.
