"Sliced And Diced" [Reflections On Book - 100 Ideas That Changed Graphic Design Stephen Heller and Veronique Vienne - # 49]

To “slice and dice” with rapid cutting strokes,
That TV hawker of his product, spoke
Until the words took meaning of their own;
In graphic arts they also found a home.

Designers use the ECU to scare;
Bring detail out, enticing us to stare;
This push-pull fact draws in while it repels;
So photographs through graphics story tells.

They crop, distort, enlarge, retouch and slice,
Until the photo, starting out as nice,
Becomes an artifact of new design;
I laugh, delighted, world of sight refined.

Depth and alarm, new mix of lens and pen
Gives scope and scale a place to flow, and then
Invites the viewers in, then up, then out,
From comfort’s zone, to areas of doubt.

Thanks Lord for this.
