"Teaching" [Reflections on Book - Right Side Up Side Down Connie Bischoff and Romeo Lemieux Part 2 - #1 - re: Esmeralda]

To me that’s what a teacher is, and what they are to do –
Have faith, and hope, do love each day thus see our lives renewed;
It’s not so much the things they say as they lead through the math,
Or English, science, shops, phys-ed – it’s end of journey’s laugh.

Not everyone for everyone, but one who impacts you –
So sixty-one I had back then, went back for twenty-two,
Plus four makes ninety teachers plus informal ones as well –
One-fifty lives have touched my life and lifted me from hell.

Though some were just a pain to me, there’s some who held the claim
Of golden links to life renewed, brought hope to me again;
Sometimes to me, sometimes a word to others eased my way,
But somehow in that time I gained the life I have today.

So, when I see that golden chain, and person’s place between
It lying on a table thus, to me here’s what it means –
It means it can be taken up, laid down, or passed along,
But in behind that hand is one with choice for right or wrong.

It matters not what choice we make – we get to choose again;
Right choice and wrong can pleasure bring or sometimes bitter pain;
But when we take that daily road, or climb some ladder’s gold,
We get to stop and look around, consider well our load.

It’s then the treasure teachers give can trickle into hearts;
Through brokenness it entrance gains, then deeper learning starts;
That’s what our teachers do for us, put learning there on top,
So when our lives come crashing down we gain what teachers wrought.

Thanks Lord for this.
