"Ten Seasons" [Reflections on Book Theory of Business Enterprise Thorstein Veblin, Chap. 1-2]
Ten seasons then you shoot the cow
For yield of milk will not allow
You to maintain such low return;,
So hot-dogs, dog food (some just burn)When hides and hooves (for glue) are more
Of value, then it’s out the door
With aged cows – that’s impact now
I see from business – trash the cow.So too with aged in our land –
When they’re wrung out all understand,
“A drag on our society
They are when all they do is pee.”So Veblen sees aright that biz,
When driven by mechanics is
A force which changes world around;
But now “Ten seasons” outlook’s found.In Veblen’s day he saw the clock
And regimen enforcing walk
Of populace to beat of drum;
But now that impact’s course is run.Machine-shops now on foreign soil
Impact those lands – for us it’s oil,
And resource which we can supply;
But more, “Our cash is short – you die.”Oh happy day! You had enough?
Why, life around is far from rough;
Just wait – our share is dropping still –
We’re still above the Third World’s swill.So, lifeboat ethics, learned before,
Is here again – it’s out the door
For you if you can’t bring home cash –
Is that too much for folks to ask?Thanks Lord for this.
