"Handicraft And Petty Trade - #3" [Reflections on Book Theory of Business Enterprise Thorstein Veblin, Chap. 4C - Business Principles]

Handicraft and petty trade
One time were how the world was made
To work – a zillion micro-shops
Some grew quite big, but there were lots.

I think that’s what we have today
As Judas has his business way –
“Go start to be entrepreneur”
Is cynical for most – that’s sure.

For most can’t cope with what’s involved
In petty trade – ’till that is solved
It’s just a game, a hope that’s dashed
As folks implode and lose their cash.

“Small business”? No, that’s next size up –
One million sales, small team that’s tough;
And “micro-business” (subsidized),
Of third-world smacks – where hope’s disguised –

In platitude of women’s power,
Where men despair, for life’s turned sour;
Like Scottish clearances for sheep,
The land’s been pillaged – some life’s sweet –

But not for most – for petty trade
Is most of life that can be made
Outside the bounds of corporate scope –
Despair indeed, and snuffed-out hope.

So lotteries are used instead –
Keeps hope alive midst walking dead;
From week to week are foolish taxed,
For that won’t bring our job-based back.

Thanks Lord for this.
