"One Hour At Least" [Reflections on Book Theory of Business Enterprise Thorstein Veblin, Chap. 5-6]

What price for book is fair, I ask;
“One hour ’round here at least –
At minimum which people set –
For salt, and light, and yeast.”

Eleven bucks that is, for me,
On Manitoba’s turf –
All in, plus tax, whatever else,
Let that much swell my purse.

So on the cover of my books
Just state that simple fact,
And let it float, for fair is fair
As base on which to act –

Or not, of course – one hour’s time
Like preaching to the choir –
They have to sing for half the time,
If they would be inspired.

Lord, thanks for this wee bit of truth
To set your people free;
As good at base for anyone
To in the chips now be.

“But Stuie, what about the rest
Of corporate expense –
Percent built on to wage, and tax,
Plus profit on that, meant?”

Lord, I will give that thought as well,
Perhaps it’s all the rest
You’d have me do, this passive is –
I interact at best.

Like – “What at post-box have you got
You did not ask for yet;
Addressed to you, you now believe?
For that put in request.”

Ah, yes! And “What on earth would you
Have Me, do for you, son?
That’s ‘Active willingness’, of course,
Ask – if you want that done”.

And then there’s “Kingdom-layer” for all,
Which You have made for us;
Like “Kite and string”, or “Kith and kin”,
Above the swirl and fuss.

“Discerning spirit of the time
And place, and circumstance,
Is part of all this, You have shown
Me through this song and dance.

“Disciple – four, twelve, seven-two –
And teach what I have taught;
For you, friend Stu, that’s Scripture tome,
And I’ll protect your walk.”

Lord, that is awesome – I’d not seen
The interface in this
Between the Kingdom-layer you’ve made,
On which we’re heaven-kissed.

Lord, thanks for Veblen’s thoughts as well,
One hundred years plus twelve
It’s sat upon some people’s shelves,
In which You’ve had me delve.

For he points out the place to stand
If one would game their Co.
“Goodwill to men on earth”, indeed,
Here from this land of snow.

Tie common shares to “goodwill” part
Debentures to the rest
(Preferred – what you have) – common stock
“Goodwill – that’s eggs – the best.

So, Lord, that anyone can do,
If they would do Your will
From Kingdom-layer (how they conceive
It matters not) for thrill –

Of rising o’er the mean and mean
Is possible at last;
“Be righteous in prosperity”
And you will have a blast.
