"To Propagate" [Reflections On Book - 100 Ideas That Changed Graphic Design Stephen Heller and Veronique Vienne - #22 ]

“To propagate the gospel” was
The slogan of a former cause;
The meaning, nineteen-twenty-eight,
Was innocent, naïve in state.

But thirties changed that for us all –
The term at first, to Hitler’s call,
Was just to propagate his line;
The term caught on, now in this time –

It means, “Big lie” of any sort;
So it’s not used of good report,
But only bad, pejorative;
For us, we’re more restorative.

To ends we have designing tools
Are used to impact minds and fool
The public one and all to think
The way we like, so we don’t blink –

Like snake that slithers in the grass
We, through our instruments now pass
Our message so convincingly
That we will win the prize and see.

So, propagate the gospel, all?
From up on Kingdom-layer call
To those who’d like to rise above
The mean and mean, live lives of love –

Come on aboard, leave that behind,
And did do your lives – what comes to mind
Is best for each of you to do
Up here – from Jesus’ point of view.

Thanks Lord for this.
