"Object Poster" [Reflections On Book - 100 Ideas That Changed Graphic Design Stephen Heller and Veronique Vienne - #23 ]

He started out all cluttered up
With smoke, and nymphs, and chicks;
Then realized “Cigar” was first,
Went in and poster wrecked.

Pulled out the nymphs, pulled out the smoke,
Cigar, and cloth – just match
With name of a firm – it took the field,
And “simple” was the catch.

And caught it did ’till World War I,
From oh-six swept through art;
It’s now just in the arsenal,
But there it got its start.

The problem was exuberance
Brought on by chromo-lith;
His color used quite simple was,
Creating emphasis.

I see it in photography,
“Spot color” in the snow,
To me that’s what each person is,
Once inner lives you know.

Thanks Lord for this.
