“The Logic Jump #2" [Reflections on Book Theory of Business Enterprise  Thorstein Veblin, Chap. 4B - Business Principles]

He makes a logic-jump as he writes on
About how we’ve progressed, and moved along;
Dismissing ancient ways and forms of thought –
“Chuck baby with the bath” is how he talks.

From Kingdom-layer and gift of TCK,
I tend to view the world a different way –
Though Europe’s shifted outlook through their days
Both errors can be blessed by heaven’s ways.

This was a time when “progress” was the theme
For those who lived through change, for then it seemed
That everything was coming “Up to date
In Kansas City” – brought on by a spate –

Of new inventions – cars, and planes, TV;
New war-machines two major wars would see;
Green revolution, global warming too –
Enamored all with impact of the new.

But different is not better when defined
By those who think outside another’s mind;
Nor worse – it is just different as can be,
Like cultures of the world which all can see.

Christ sent Apostles into foreign lands,
To boundary-jump each culture-wall that stands
Between the groups and clusters on the globe,
With salt, and light, and leaven’s story told.

Each culture has its shortfalls – that’s the place
Where Kingdom-life perspective lets us face
Ourselves, and where our group’s gone off the track –
Salt, light, and leaven helps us shift that back.

When cultures shift, as Europe’s did (he notes),
New culture’s views now come into our scope;
“Where are the shortfalls of this newer view?
Salt, light, and leaven act on thought that’s new.

For culture’s like a river, not a pail
Of water – “Good or bad” does not prevail;
As outlook firmly fixed, it shifts around,
So “Good and bad” in different things are found.

Sure, what he says is true, in part at least –
His business chapter is a thoughtful feast;
Exuberant, it overstates his case –
Says, “God no longer has a central place”.

That’s true, for many now do not believe;
He’s part of life as they past cultures leave;
That doesn’t change a thing if He exists;
Embracing truth past errors each resist.

But Kingdom-life’s detached from “That or this”
Or “Now and then” – all are by heaven kissed;
Not Luddites who say “Change can never be
A good thing” – look round at what you see.

Past flavor, light, and lightening for each,
Irrelevant becomes when e’er we reach
A new perspective – rather, look to see
What’s new in need of healing, setting free.

Thanks Lord for this.
