"And Then There's Sex"  [Reflections On Book - 100 Ideas That Changed Graphic Design Stephen Heller and Veronique Vienne - #10 ]

And then, of course, there’s sex, which sells
Whatever one’s portrayal tells
Us what we want to hear and see –
What roles, positions, status we –

Allow for women in our life –
Such images of girlfriend, wife;
From clay to water-color, stone,
Through Photoshop retouching’s honed.

Such mix and match society
Allows to flow, for folks are pleased
When human beauty, harnessed up
To selling says, “That’s not enough”.

For “Look at me” coquettishly
Draws eyes to fashion, let’s folks see
The newest, latest, biggest, best,
From chewing gum to fashion’s dress.

But though it works (symbolic power),
Hot buttons push at zero-hour
Of buying, spending, renting – sales
Are part of larger women’s tale.

For “Missing and the murdered ones),
“Pornography” as some folks’ fun
Is other end of this pursuit
Pursued by ads within this group.

Not every culture has same set
Of buttons, therefore adds to get
The viewers to pull out their cash
Exchanging it to build their stash.

But tweak and shift such images
Here in the West and you will see
Both good and bad parts get pumped up
Until in the end folks say, “Enough!”

Thanks Lord for this.
