"Big" [Reflections On Book - 100 Ideas That Changed Graphic Design Stephen Heller and Veronique Vienne - # 9]
You make it big and people cower,
Like on the school ground, recess hour –
The bully, male or female, each
Impressed on others, “Let me teach –You who’s in charge, who has the power
To have their will obeyed this hour –
It’s me, myself, and I – you’ll see,
If you don’t buckle, yield to me.”Old story – back to cave-man times –
Big guys, big club, “What’s yours is mine”;
We do the same – perpetuate
Our myths of status, greed, and hate.So boost the size of image, pix,
Add words or phrase, some slogan mix,
Then you will have the bully back,
Achieving greatness you still lack.“No image of Me, great or small,
Make for the benefit of all –
You’re in My image made (as one
Assembled body – have some fun –“Don’t thrash around out there, My friend –
Though Caesar’s head’s on coin – just send
His stuff to him – your image? Me –
So give your lives back here – you’ll see –“Dip cup of water from the sea,
It is a part, not all of Me –
One person, image, word, or phrase
Is part, evoking worship, praise.“So make your monuments – use ‘big’
As you persuade your friends to dig
Into their pocket, wallet, purse;
But don’t let process make things worse –“By making Me into your scale,
By making images for sale;
You’re part of My expressive word,
So let Creator’s word be heard.”Thanks Lord for this.
