“Walls” [end of college – chapter 10]
Walls are things we build to stop
Other folks from what we’ve got;
’Round a nation, country, home,
Keeping out the ones who roam.Berlin wall came down at last,
Eastern folks came sweeping past;
Now it’s folks from Syria
Causing great hysteria.Education’s fortress-walls
Made of ivy, stone, quite tall;
Gates are closed to all but few;
Education’s what they do.“Certify” is key to cash –
MOOCs emerged to hit their stash;
First about community,
Now vocation’s what they see.Electronic-digital,
IT upgrades needed still;
Rich at top indulge in MOOCs,
Have degrees, but want more loot.Myths and lore envelop space,
Make admission learning’s race;
“Clever” use free courses now
To enrich their classrooms – how –Gertrude did on CBC –
“Music” broadcast piped in free;
Radio the hot new space,
Learning better in this case.Ivy League is moving in –
MOOC-ing’s place where they begin;
Courses “bait” for entrance spots,
Broader market sharing costs.Books are ways credentials print –
Market pays for bites or ink;
Or upload what you have done;
Answer queries by the ton.In the end, who is guru?
Harvard-trained or from BU?
Badges list the things you know –
Find some way to learning show.It’s about community
In the past – will always be;
We’re a body – unity
Myth we’re units – you and me.Thanks Lord for this.
