"Udemy – I Love It!" [Reflections on Book The End Of College #1]
I love it – University
Had start from folks like you and me –
Back in Bologna, Italy,
Who hired a teacher for a fee.When Paris got one, teachers ruled –
They set of the standards; name changed too –
“We’re college – union of the profs;
So when you enter, hats you’ll doff.”First shift was writing – long before,
When Plato’s cave spoke of the door
To truth – soon came a shift again
As printing press replaced the pen.That ripple was not critical –
It books enhanced, made power-full;
In US three more things arose,
Became agenda set for those –Who would direct the college scene
A way beyond what it had been –
“Research” (that’s German), “liberal arts”,
“A booster as Republic starts”.All three have blended, made the scene;
Now down-slide-up makes all this seem
To be beyond our pocketbooks;
But then let’s take a second look –“The end of college”, runs the phrase,
As Internet usurps the place
Once hallowed as the place to be –
To learn, it’s University.Stakeholders three there are, it seems,
The student, teacher – so that means
The government now plays a role
To end degree from setting goals.For they have stake in college too –
Like crime rates drop, what people do
Once learning rises midst the foe –
White-collar crime is way to go.Now autodidacts rule the roost;
Life circles round to early roots
Where students learned, like you and me,
Hired prof – made University.Thanks Lord for this.
