"The Song - Keep Silent #1 " (Luke 19:39-40) [Photographic Communication]  [Community Contribution Set Of Poems]

“Sunrise, sunset; sunrise, sunset”,
Song captures cyclic rhythm – yet
My day was not some humdrum beat,
But spoke of war, and forced retreat:

“Excuse me, ma’am, that’s not quite right –
Song speaks of God who holds us tight –
Sure, done through His humanity,
But look behind, and God you’ll see.”

“Oh no it’s not – there is no God!
So hold your tongue – they’ll think you’re odd;
And odd won’t bring the bacon home,
So homelessly you’ll ever roam.”

“Back off? Why sister, what of truth?
Is that not valued ’neath this roof?
You say, ‘Don’t lie or sneak around’–
To me in song my meaning’s found.”

“There is no ‘God’, so back off, see?
I rule this roost, and state that we
Don’t see within such lyrics that –
My meaning stands, so best you back –

“Off from this talk of Spirit stuff;
Black kids have still not learned enough;
They’re objects of our pity, kid,
White thought is best – of ‘God’ be rid.”

“Is that not role of poetry?
To call us in, that we might see
The half the poet gave to hear,
And then supply what does appear –

“To us as we look ’round with him
Or her, our journeyed thought begin,
From point of view that poet brings –
To look ’till our heart also sings?

“It’s not of ‘knowledge’ that you speak,
But ‘faith’ – so I will not retreat;
For no one knows if God exists –
It’s fifty-fifty odds – that is –

“It could be yes; it could be no;
We make our best guess, live it so
We’re integrated to the core;
It’s faith both ways – we can’t say more.

My bet is on ‘There is a God’;
Your bet is ‘No, there’s only sod’;
That’s fine – but neither knows for sure –
It’s faith – despite thought’s strong allure.

“So how ’bout some humility –
Stop saying you, not I, can see;
Besides, in songs and poetry
The story’s what in it, each sees.”

Thanks Lord for this.
