"The End Of Joking 'Round"

I made a joke or two last night
But he did not respond,
For memory loss has settled in –
He knows there’s something wrong.

An early sign is silence when
A joke hits close to home;
No need to say, “I’m at the start,
Don’t in that subject roam”.

So smart he was, helped educate
A host, and mentored well
Their teachers over decades – now
He’s into living hell.

He’ll make the most of fading day
As twilight time comes nigh;
I recognize it in my walk,
Halfway twixt world and sky.

Thanks Lord for this.
