"Prunes" [Module#413] (John 15:1-2)
I wonder where the term comes from –
“To prune” – a tree, so, when that’s done
There’ll be more fruit on smaller plant;
Not like the church – my common rant.Some grow it down so they can see
The edges of community;
Some throw away good fortune like
The UCC – the silly types.But here Christ lays it on the line –
“Produce the fruit and you’ll do fine;
No fruit, the Father cuts you down;
Good trees are pruned – so fruit abounds.”Another place He spares a tree –
“One year again (no fruit for three)
Dig ’round and fertilize it on
The hopes bad years are fully gone.”I’ve also seen a tree mess up
When crowded, they think they are tough
Enough to grow to larger space,
Then fail, fall back in great disgrace.So change is great, or can be, but
It’s dangerous – life can be tough –
Far tougher than it first appears,
So take it easy – feel your fears.Thanks Lord for this.
