“Fig Trees Behind, And Mountains Ahead” (Matt. 21:11; Mk.11:20) [Module #288]

There’s fig trees and mountains as we sally forth,
That’s why there is pruning and chucking of course;
While mountains of issues you chuck in the sea,
Forget about both, for they’re way beyond thee.

Got fig-tree that’s barren? Just go on your way;
Sometimes they don’t grow well, so need you to say,
“Forget it; try elsewhere; first loss is the worst;”
Then make something better, new visions rehearse.

Got mountains of issues which stand in your way?
Bad memories, anxiety, hatred that stays?
It’s best you forget it, and cast it away
To sea of forgetfulness – move it today.

In world this is hard, best you turn it to God;
He’ll help you to deal with it, here on the sod;
By faith you rise over it, up on new layer
Of life in His Kingdom – sustained now by prayer.

It’s not that you walk away faking it’s gone
(We try it, but often find it comes along);
But rather, we “curse” it, and call spade a spade –
Admit it is barren, let it fade away.

There’s ways to move mountains which block up our paths,
Depending on circumstance, problems we have;
By faith we move forward and let mountains pass
From here to eternity, grace comes at last.

But if we allow these to clutter our lives,
We’ve no one to blame but ourselves – not our wives,
Nor husbands, nor friends, society ’round –
Bad past, and blocked future for all folks are found.

The biggest of challenges we meet each day,
Are often inside us and spook us away;
I don’t mean be stupid, just press on today,
In faith He will help you, so these words I say –

“Dear Father in heaven, I ask for Your grace
To walk through my present, for this is the case –
This fig-tree is barren, not bless-ed but cursed;
These mountains of obstacles seem like the worst.

“So cursed be the fig-tree, and mountains be gone;
And blessed be the layer of Kingdom I’m on;
It’s life interactive I’m choosing today –
Please help me abide in You – I’m on my way.”

Lord, thanks for the insights, You knew in the past
Your mentees would need them when you died – alas
They’d have to admit what had got them to there,
Would not take them home – best they not tarry there.

And also they’d have to address guilt and shame –
For running away, and denying Your name;
And then there were actions of Judas as well –
For all would take part in this Passover hell.

Good news for us all as we pack up our stuff,
Step into the futures You’ve chosen for us –
Our pasts can be dealt with and blocks in our path;
And future life’s possible – each need just ask.
