“Lazarus – The Selfie Stick”

I saw a “Selfie-stick” – first time –
A couple held it, in a line,
To take a selfie on their phone,
And send it back to folks at home.

The stick had clamp out on the end,
Which held their phone – when set, they’d send
An impulse to the shutter-switch,
And totem poles, with them, heard “click”.

When we see selfies, people pix,
A “Work-in-progress” covers it;
For we all grow from birth to death,
Amidst all those who still draw breath.

His sister said to Christ that day,
“I know that God gives what You say,
But if You’d been here all along,
My brother now would not be gone.”

“We change by stages”, someone said,
“As we progress before we’re dead;
So cut yourself some slack re: speed
Of change – take time to meet your needs”.

Take me – I asked God several times
To show me what He had in mind,
’Bout what He’d like for me to do –
It took a while to get it through –

My head, for I lacked concept’s base
To process message – in my case,
The “TCK” stuff, “Echoland” –
“My culture’s base on which to stand”

Once that clicked in, the power flowed,
The lights turned on, the fire glowed;
“Ah Ha! I see the missing piece
I needed for my soul’s release!”

As I’ve progressed through each life-stage,
God’s used the portion He had made,
Not waiting ’till all was in place,
Which is, of course, most people’s case.

Lord, now, like Lazarus, I see
Your starting words – address this need;
And as I now prepare to leave
This grave of stone – two things I need –

I need your patience with my ‘self’,
As now I’m moved down off the shelf;
Keep mind and heart from vain regrets;
Keep focus on what’s not come yet.

The second thing is grace from You
To guide me in the work I do;
Keep me on central path between
Those ditches filled with mean and mean.

Not just for me, I pray, O Lord,
By fellow travelers on this road;
Help us be open to Your life,
Enlightened by Your daily light –

That all may someday be with You
Above, as here, in all we do;
As we live out Your body life,
And to the world around be light.

Thanks Lord for this.
