“Long Work And Short” [Module #229] (Matt 20:1-16; Exodus 16:14-18)
Sometimes it seems it never ends –
Long works in us through which God bends
Us, breaks us, molds us, fills us, then
Recycles us, so in the end –His long-work in our life gives way
To short works – helping others say
And do the things they should – freed up
By liberating long-work stuff.And us? He bids us do some task –
Some “This or that” some place when asked;
When done, He’s given some room to act –
Together Jubilee’s a fact.Our pay is for His “This and that”;
Not much, but equal to the task
He has us do – we needn’t squawk
For with Him there we learn to walk –A walk of exponential good –
Sometimes it’s poorly understood;
But done together, yes sirree
Ka-boom! Release is what we see.Lord now as I press into day,
Take up the part You give as pay,
Help me to realize my part
In life – in giving folks a start –In what You want to do through them,
As to their labors soon they bend
Their strength, resource, and work in You,
Blessed by their walk in Spirit’s view.Help me fill up their Omar jar
When mine is filled, lest they be far
Behind the rest – so enter in
Their labors which they now begin.Lord, time it takes to desert cross
Quite different is – for there is loss
As now the heat of day to day
Stops labor – all must go away –So in the short-term we must aid
Our neighbor’s task, lest work delayed
For him or her be stopped too soon –
Half-filled their manna-jars by noon.As they live now their short-term day,
They get to walk their desert way
From Egypt’s pens of slavery
To Promised Land each dimly sees.Thanks Lord for this.
