"Step Up"  [Module #193] (Luke 14:1-24)

I know these guys, two bush-league types,
Some think are strong; but that’s not right;
Oh yeah, there’s strong, like physical,
And also in the practical –

But once you get to know their stance,
You’ll learn to take a second glance;
Their power comes from deep within
A life redeemed from life of sin.

Rebelliousness, that is, I’d say
For that’s what sin is – have our way;
But that’s a shallow-water life;
They’ve pushed to deep and got things right.

Like Mutt and Jeff the two hang ’round
Their place of work, that’s where they’re found;
They work together, not apart,
Great team they are – and both are smart.

“So, Sampson, where’s your source of power
To slay those lions, work for hours?”
In their case, that’s an easy one –
It’s letting go and letting Son –

Fulfill His precious life through them,
And that’s for real and not pretend –
But we can’t see their types at all
Unless we let “self-center” fall.

Unless we say “How blessed is”
(Not cursed) “one doing Jesus’ biz”;
We’ll never see what God hath wrought,
So we’ll be swayed by fancy talk.

What do I learn from working types?
“Get down to task, and do it right;
Life’s not that complex, walk it out;
Don’t mess around with endless doubt.

“Help folks to do their work each day,
Don’t do it for them, show the way;
Work indirectly; don’t alarm
Folks’ simple life with false alarms.

“Keep focused, do the task at hand,
And then the next – don’t understand?
Then ask, for lots of others know,
And Internet your mind will blow!

“Do not confuse, ‘I can do that’,
With ‘should do that’, try holding back;
Sometimes it’s better left alone
To find a match or proper home.

“Let them just copy, be inspired;
Help out upstream, beyond required;
Drop endless detail better done
By other folks who’d love to run.

“Stay fresh; watch others; try things new;
With photographs change point of view;
Push envelope of basic skills;
Bend repertoire to serve God’s will.

“Then mix it up with software tools;
There’s many ways to speak – some cool,
So stretch it out and jump right in,
And wondrous life in Christ begin.”

Thanks Lord for this.
