"Preparations For Life" [Module #173] (Luke 12:20)
The preparations made for life and living,
We store up in our earthly granaries,
Is pitiful, and often pass from using
Before the light of day they ever see.Our money is most flexible for using,
To help us ease our daily misery,
Or help us win the game (King of the Mountain),
In world where center-point of life is “me”.But stores of food (like here) kept in their shelters,
Or goods and chattels used within our homes;
Our tools, machines, equipment at the office,
Build us as we our skills and talents on hone.Lord, in the end it all will get recycled,
A mix and match of everything we have;
Bless our release from things which hold us hostage,
And on our empty hearts and minds pour salve.Truth, beauty, joy, eternal things around us,
Our life in Christ, and treasures of God’s word,
Should increase in proportion with our aging –
It’s not the warning for us is not heard.But worries, creature comforts, and our riches,
Choke out the words we hear that bring us life;
We don’t mature in heart, and mind, and spirit,
And bodies fall apart in social strife.Lord, help us to adjust our inward stature,
Of thought and feeling as we go from here,
To build the life of deep eternal value –
Deliver now our hearts from futile fear.It’s scary, Lord, to step into our future,
All cloaked with vague, uncertain misty trails;
Be with us as we face what this day brings us,
’Till evening song and springtime’s daffodils.navigation
