"Be Overconfident" [Fawcett #31] (Mark 14:66-72; 2 Chron 36:15ff)

The carelessness which winning breeds
Is hard to combat, so our needs
Unmet remain as we press on;
Fresh factors rise – momentum’s gone.

Small change can make a difference great –
Intelligence encryptions break;
Competitors discern our plans
And turn them ’round, disrupt our stands.

Sometimes when we might win with ease,
We slacken off, opponents seize
Some minor flaw, seize the offence,
And overwhelm our scant defence.

So too, as persons in our day,
We underestimate the way
Life can turn ’round, our pompous talk
Shifts to become a humbled walk.

Thanks Lord for this.
