"Enlightenment Tested By Multi-Dimensional Love" [1st John Series] (1John 2:7-17)

The love we have in daily life is mixed;
“Enlightenment” as claim can thus be nixed –
When light of love shines on the claims we say
Drive lust, and greed, and arrogance away.

There’s love God has for us and we for Him;
There’s love for fellow man (or not – that’s sin);
There’s love for things the world has in its store;
Priorities of these show one thing more –

Our love of self (in good sense and in bad);
As good, our self-respect, without which sad
Indeed our days lived out upon this globe,
And heavy are our hearts’ excessive loads.

Isaiah gave his warning long ago –
Don’t walk alone unseeing, or you’ll know
A life of stumbling on your darkened way,
Then end up in a ditch at end of day.

But here John, as an old man, sheds some light –
“It’s to you older folks that I now write;
You know – assured by life in Christ for years –
Don’t blow it now and end in vale of tears.

“For darkness of this world can blind our eyes;
Where once we saw in Christ, our light arise,
Allure of life with softer, easier way,
Removes eternal life, leads us astray.”

So if we claim Enlightenment ourselves,
This test of love into our heart now delves,
And helps us sort the fruit of lesser ways,
Despite their claims that lesser better pays.

Thanks Lord for this.
