"Now That The Ship's Come In"(1st John1:1-4)

What if this letter I now read
Speaks to my current state of need
For apostolic model – gone ahead
With letter ours, though John’s now dead?

Like John, an old man, all his life
Apostle task he’d honed just right;
We get to watch him flavor soup
Of culture there, in different group.

Not culture-busting, as we’re wont
To do – though Jesus says, “Please don’t –
Take salt, and light, and leaven there –
Improve their cultures – show God’s care.”

For culture’s just a porridge bowl;
It matters not the turn of soul
Preferred by folks in varied fare,
For all need salt, light, leaven there.

For me, “What if”, I now try on,
To see if light will come as dawn
To work I now start up full blast –
Apostle-ship – my cruise at last.
