Body Life

That’s just about as much as I can input this time ’round;
’Bout thirty years of silence since she first made talking sound;
And these are just the first steps on a journey of the team;
Who cares what understanding floats around on what it means.

Imagine that – a layman doing this or that for God;
Denominations’ stranglehold makes it seem a rather odd
That laymen can do anything – ordain, baptize, confirm;
Or marry, burry, counsel folks, or heal when they’re infirm.

“Equip for ministry”, it reads, but seldom it is done;
The role of priest’s for everyone not just reserved for some;
Religious clubs have buildings, and a budget to move on;
But people are the church of Christ, now early days are gone.

Not everyone desires to be involved in every scene,
So split them out, divide them up, depending how the lean;
High numbers now have been to school, and higher-learning too,
So bring to life their actions, broad perspective – which is cool.

’Course that removes a context for the clergy and their ilk;
Who keep the folks away from meat ensure their diet’s milk;
Don’t give them place to grow up to their full maturity;
But split the angle diagram and half the gospel feed.

I see a church as institution raising people up;
I see a context where the Saints through years emerge as tough;
I see an institution falling flat upon its face;
I see a need for clergy who speed up maturing pace.

I had a set of elders who did all the work each week;
It threw me off, but went okay, so I began to see,
That everyone could play a part, and some would rise up as
The leadership within the group – to preach and all that jazz.

So now I see more what You mean, Lord Jesus, here and now –
Build up the folks whatever way; be sure to show them how
To live in You and Spirit-walk as You show them the way
To be of service, in Your body-life from day to day.

Thanks Lord for this.
