"When I'm Walkin’" [Module #52] (John 6:28-30; 21:21)
She took this photo years ago, and little’s changed to date –
Me reading – title of the book a hoot! for still I wait
For clarity of task in life, though now in final phase
Of work – Apostleship, that is – seven double-years of days.The title (What Shall This Man Do?) A quote from Peter’s mouth,
Was visible in photo – here’s what it was all about –
For all around my study there were stacks of papers deep –
Things unattended to, unfiled, God knows why still I’d keep.“How ’bout you clean your study up, clear out your living space?
It’s quite depressing to us all – so bad you cannot face
It as a working space to do the work that lies at hand;
Perhaps if that was cleared away, your task you’d understand!”Well, here once more the concept’s seen in Jesus life as well –
Caper-na-um, in Synagogue, they asked if He would tell
Them clearly, “What will you do, friend?” to back up this report,
That You’re the son of God for all, as us You now exhort.Results – we like results, indeed, by that we hand out power
And resource, so more work gets done, we measure by the hour.
So, “What will you do?” that we ask like talent-scouts these days;
But what is far more to the point – “How much does that job pay?”“One dollar gets one vote”, we say in corporation life;
So where’s your money?” workers ask, exchange is only right;
“Invest in me, I’ll bring return”, is how it works today
To those who rise above the rest who work for hourly pay.So, “What shall this man do?” he asks at end of Jesus life;
To us that question comes, like now, when we would see the light;
“What of that guy?”, “And how ’bout me?” we often ask aloud;
In Watchman’s book, I recollect, he with this points out how –Our former tasks in daily life affect our work in Christ –
Like Peter, as a fisherman, “caught men” both day and night;
John mended nets, then wrote his books to patch a broken org.;
While Paul made tents, then stitched together church with letters’ words.So how ’bout me, what shall I do? Is life reflected here?
“Communication” is the part my early life held dear –
The written and the spoken word; the tapes and photographs;
Initial business as a kid – cheap news on Hectograph.And now those merge – augmented text emerges from the mix;
I struggle with Creative Suite, to words I add the pix;
The concept is quite powerful, a way to stories tell;
Augmented novels with the rest, to tell each story well.So yes, my study’s still a mess, it’s always been that way;
There is a comfort in it all, creative sparks each day;
And comfort of reminders – where I’ve been (I can’t recall);
And from that cauldron come the thoughts which mix and match for all.But when I turn to context of those words which Peter spoke,
I hear a different aspect ’bout the day when I awoke
To life in Christ, as its progressed down through my living years –
“What of this man?” That’s what he meant – took Jesus as a seer.“MYOB” is what Christ said, it’s nothing more to you;
You pay attention to your life, and work I’d have you do;
That’s more the way I find it now myself – MYOB,
And Spirit-walk in Christ each day – and see what there shall be.For me that’s how I’ve done my life, and what I see ahead –
To “Spirit-walk”, “Abide in Christ”, from now until I’m dead;
What shall I do throughout these seven double-years I’ve got?
God knows, and He’s not talking; best I take a little walk.Thanks for this, Lord.
