Warmth
There’s a thawing which is taking place in there,
Come to think of it, a little bit like air
To the miners trapped in potash mine last week –
Makes for life, and hope, for future life we seek.All it takes is some persistence – well, a lot,
Which in many ways is much of what I’ve got;
Touch to give, don’t touch to take, and present be;
Pick a spot to hang around, then wait and see.Takes a while to sort things out, see and be seen;
Takes some work to penetrate the wall that’s been
There so long that no one sees it’s shutting out,
New folks coming in who circulate about.So they come and go – most cannot take the shun
(Their experience of how life here is done);
“Life is short, I’ll go some place where others say,
‘Welcome friend, how nice to see you here today’.”Well, a dozen folks said “Hi” to me this week;
I think everyone is hesitant to seek
What they need – so all hang back, do not reach out
To the newbies coming in, for there is doubt –It’s their place to welcome others to the fold,
After all they’re still shut out – “Can we enfold
Other people to our lives – say ‘Come on in’ –
Ease the struggle in their lives with death and sin?”Yup – for no one owns the church but Christ our Lord,
Who said, “Come ye weary, hearken to My word –
Take My yoke upon you – make your burden light;
Life abundant have with joy, in God of might.”Someone sitting in my section is fair game;
I assume if they feel welcome they’ll remain;
If they’d rather be alone they’ll shift around;
But in my small sector welcome can be found.So I’m thawing out my little corner pew;
Folks can come or go, and many of them do;
But I choose to stay right here and say hello,
So the folks who come to church some warmth will know.navigation
