Unto Caesar

Well, Cesar’s had to wait in line
As we Your business ways refined;
O Lord, now here we go again
As we proceed to ease the pain –

Of people in our neighborhood
Who are confused – not understood
How life can work throughout their days
In righteousness which also pays –

The bills, which come relentlessly
Throughout each month, until we see
A better way to do our lives,
Than in this swirl where each one strives.

Lord it’s not easy – different here
From at a desk – that much is clear;
I think of Auden’s intro lines,
“Dag’s poetry was quite sublime –

“But he was no ascetic scribe,
Involvement is how I’d describe
His life – as head of UN org.
Involvement shaped poetic word.”

Lord, keep me focused in Your word;
Help, that correction might be heard;
So strange the words that lady said,
“You’re trained, yet by our study fed.”

But trained just means I’ve learned to learn;
A start it is, not trophy earned;
A life-long process, You as guide;
Apprenticeship’s where we reside.

Okay, O Lord, help me grow up,
And learn Your ways through this new stuff;
Each day walk in humility,
Until that day when all we see.

Thanks.
