Conditions Of Risk

“ ‘Risk’, the preacher said that day, “a context is to us;
‘Faith’ relates to how we walk within that swirling muss;
‘Stepping out’ is what we do by faith when risk appears –
Substantiating hopes, convinced of things unseen – in fears.

“Think about what you will do well back of stepping out,
If you don’t, you’ll waver as you tremble, look about;
Tell me why your next five years can’t be your very best,
Christ the author of your faith will finish it in test.”

We can’t go back to the start, begin again in time;
We can’t do things over once we’ve stepped across some line;
But we can start out today, and make a better end,
By the actions which we take – in straight line make a bend.

Some folks talk of destiny and fate – like we’re blocked in,
Doomed to failures be, as though we’re trapped in life of sin;
Rather, ‘Destiny’ to me speaks of God’s unseen plans,
Bidding us step out in faith, jump to His loving hands.

We’re on marriage number ten, though wed for forty-two;
Each has quite successful been, but change is what we do;
Circumstances shift, for reasons out of our control;
We just wed again and find new ways towards God’s goal.

All it takes is “Move”, and “Second”, “All in favor – aye”
Kiss as we take up new marriage, let the old one die;
We decided long ago, that’s how we’ll handle change –
When we get to the end of path, our route we re-arrange.
