Of David's Gentle Toughness
It's nice to see her pretty face and listen to her voice,
And watch the way she's looked upon by all the passing boys;
I know she frightens Brandon guys because she is so smart,
Yet winsome is her presence here, for gentle is her heart.She's set her sights far up the line, up in the stratosphere –
"Decisions made affect us all, and need a mind that's clear;
I want to be there, say my piece, and with the others guide,
Decisions made for Canada, where each of us resides."You may not think it matters much when all the world's in view,
(Decisions made within this land, and what we choose to do);
But I think yes, it matters here, for we are in God's plan,
Affecting and affected by the folks outside our land."Take Jesus, from that two-bit place, who stayed around His home,
He made low impact on His kin while at His work – He roamed
Around the country – fifty miles or so, no more, I doubt;
Few paid attention to His words while on His early route."But we are cautioned to forbear despising little things,
For geometric is the curve of life and what it brings;
A seed, or coin, when doubled up, looks small here at the first –
But two, then four, then eight goes on till calculators burst."Said Moses, "Say a prayer each time you eat, when you sit down,
So when the curve starts rising up, your feet stay on the ground;
For grace at meals prepares your hearts for God's prosperity,
Lest you destroy His handiwork by saying, "It was me".Christ's cautions pointed out to friends, "Take heed, here at the first –
Remember, happy are the ones who after goodness thirst";
"The gift of power over men and women in your land,
Is from the Lord to help them live, let Wisdom guide your hand."And that's all fine, there's more of course, but that is not my point;
My point is ’bout that pretty face – when it's knocked out of joint,
Or when that mind is broken up when she gets in the way;
Christ said, "Die now, for then the fear will not get in the way."They say that Atlas got so strong by lifting up a calf;
Each day he hefted as it grew, till stronger he by half
Than others who thought calves too light to bother boasting of;
But Atlas knew how strength required a base for things above.It's fear that stops us in our tracks, and fear is good in fact –
For little fears within our hearts, like calves, call us to act;
As we face lions in the street, slay bears with club and rock,
We will not flinch or lose our aim before Goliath's talk.Those little fears are practice fears, stick with them, push on through;
You need not face what others face, just face the ones for you;
Take little steps, but push yourself, step from your comfort's zone,
Like when you went to Winnipeg, that new, uneasy home.Each day pick up that calf when small, and with that calf grow up;
Those little things, in quiet times, are what will toughen up
That gentle heart so it can show God's love where He will choose;
So when Goliath shows his face, that battle he will lose.navigation
