Poker
“Most of my technique I got from others;
Impressive to the younger playing ones;
Not so good to those who know their business;
Keeps me growing – just another way of having fun.”Having kids is much like playing poker:
Newer players bring much to the game;
Not so much in skill and complications –
More like fresh approach that's not the same.Then they grow, mature – new situations
Rise and must be met as they move on;
Every challenge calls to be responsive;
After years their innocence is gone.There's a lot of luck for all us players,
But there's skill, technique, inspired moves;
It's not just the hand at the beginning –
What we do with hands, come win or lose.Some review their game to find new patterns;
Some relate to other players well;
Some perceive the tells in body movements;
Some traditions hold, ignore the tells.Some read endless books concerning poker;
Some are focused mainly on the cash;
Some have structured methods in their madness;
Some mix all this up like poker-hash.Poker at the first is somewhat different –
Changes in approach as we grow up;
Just like raising kids – there's just no telling,
How we will respond to newer stuff.We start out our play with seven theories,
(Like the joke of parents raising kids)
Then we've seven kids, and no more theories –
Playing poker such malarkey rids.Then the newer players touch our playing –
Have us learning Spanish; get tattoos;
Hanging on a cable over forests –
Stimulating game some people choose.navigation
