When I Look Out
When I look out upon the stars above,
And think of days for us in early love,
My thoughts go back before our time on Earth,
When Abraham had doubt they would give birth.
He asked of God a sign for them to see –
Was shown the stars and sand beneath his feet.“My son, all nations will be blessed by them,
As many folk as stars and grains of sand
Will be so blessed – you will not die alone –
For years to come your thoughts will bless their homes;
I have not dropped plans made before you came,
To bless the world and leave it ever changed.“For on this Earth, in cultures far and wide
Folks go their ways – like Adam run and hide
From me in shame, or selfish way of life;
They strive on through to rise above the strife;
But in these days of patient waiting here
You'll learn to trust beyond what now appears.”So as I look from here to southern skies,
My thoughts advance beyond when each one dies
To years ahead which we but dimly see,
When through each life which we in present see
There'll flow a life in Southern Hemisphere,
Which echoes of a life we now hold dear.For thus through time life reaches on ahead;
So blessed we've been by those who long are dead;
We too touch life that reaches round the globe,
And share the gems of truth and life we hold
With those not born, who will not ever know
The threads we weave as through these days we go.O Lord, as we prepare to end our days
With one last venture built on former ways,
We ask your grace that we may quit the field
With life renewed, abundant crop to yield
Of normal life – for in that plenitude
Lies life so blessed in starry magnitude.navigation
