Easter Saturday – The Day Between

“Jesus Christ is risen today” is not an Easter hymn;
“Today ” – it means times such as this, the space we're living in;
It’s resurrection time for us – twixt past and future days
When all this mess resolves itself, and walk in Jesus pays.

We live on “resurrection ground” baptized into His death;
Response is not to foolish life so long as we have breath;
We're buried with Him in the pond, arise on other side
And it leave behind our former lives – not where we now reside.

There's lots of mess still needs be turned to better way to live;
There's lots of things we've gathered up we've still to others give;
There's lots of life that we might share with others on our way,
Until we come at last up to our last departure day.

I get confused and lose my way, can't tell which way's up;
I wish I could move on from here, drink deep from heaven's cup;
This world is such a mess right now, I hunch it will get worse
Before we see Your Kingdom, Lord, and see this all reversed.

With Easter day in two more days, "tomorrow" You were dead –
You died that we might live, my Lord, and we might move ahead;
So why am I still stuck right now, without a pathway clear;
I long to be en route once more, and feel Your presence near.

Please open up my heart, O Lord – and ears, and eyes, and hands,
That I might see and do Your will, perhaps then understand
Just what you have in mind for us as we pursue Your way,
And see the end of all this mess – full resurrection day.
