A Song

I feel there's a poem that needs to be sung
Some words rise up in me now life's just begun –
It springs up around me, as plain as can be,
As women and men sing of God's Jubilee.

It's in the First Nations as they stabilize
From decades of heartache – they now realize
It's over, behind them, a new life begins
As they walk in freedom, which Spirit now brings.

I see it in white folks who penitent are;
I see it in migrants from trouble afar;
I see it in children out playing their games;
I see it in seniors where dignity reigns.

I see it in churches released from constraint;
In government workers assisting the faint;
It bursts out around us wherever we are;
It's there for the taking – Sing hallelujah!
