Homicide

Murder – entertainment?
I think not – at least for those of us
Whose lives are touched by such atrocity.

Murder – and comprehension?
     Away beyond,
For when it sweeps in upon us
              With its cruel reality
                   We have no base
                        From which to judge
                            Or weigh
                                 Enormity.

Murder – death of others?
No – a part, just part of ‘we’ –
          For left to live
               Is emptiness
                   Where kinship
                        Used to be.

Murder – just random?
     No – not really –
          For we're linked
               With bonds of life
                    Which ebb and flow
                         Together in
                              Entwined
                                   Complexity.

Murder – tell kids?
     What words can capture this,
          Yet frame it such
               That life will then proceed
                   As if it never happened
                        To our kin?

Murder – close? I think not –
     Lest tsunami sweep
          Us down –
               We push away –
We do not want to know
                          Its ugly truth –
                               Perhaps some error
                                    In the news
                                               And yet –
                                                     I fear not...
