“Hands-Free”

New rules apply here on this day
For cell-phone talkers on their way –
‘Hands-free’ or ‘not at all’ it's said,
Or you'll be fined (or end up dead).

Too many crashes with those things;
Distraction – text and talking brings.
Best have some time to be alone
Now they can't reach you on the phone.

Are cell phones off now when you pray?
Have sex? Relate to children's play?
On holidays? In time alone?
When with your friends? Repairing home?

Do wife and kids have access line
Where they can reach you anytime,
Which no one knows except those folk
'Cause one with kin is fact, not joke?

For phones are rude, when we stand back,
They interrupt and context lack;
We take a call – “Would you like soup?”
A voice intrudes into our group.

Match phones with ancient etiquette –
Their rudeness stop, not us beset
With ‘manners rude when face to face
As members of our human race’.
