Capacity To Cope

Give a kid a shiny dollar, his capacity to cope
May not reach his spending limit – unfulfilled as to his hope;
Give that kid a little penny, she might view it as a toy,
Wrap it up in toilet tissue, whether girl or little boy.

Part is age and concepts forming in the minds of little ones;
Part is scope of view around them, curve of graph when years are done;
Part is culture of our childhood, both of macro-micro kind;
Part is gifting and our being – whether ‘giver’ turn of mind.

To press up the scope of volume when the kid can't handle it
Is no favour to our children – gives them stress, they have a fit.
Better, match amount of money with capacity to cope,
Stay within their spending limits, smaller chunks fulfilling hope.
