Second Site

There's double takes and second sight
Which speak of depth perception;
For life is deeper than we think
Till death from our conception.

We walk along oblivious
To life which flows around us,
Till something stops us in our tracks –
We see that love surrounds us.

Not just the care and outward things
Through which we've shown devotion
Or even inward gentle touch
Conveying deep emotion.

It's deeper yet, beyond all words
Or images to capture;
Faint echoes of it first are glimpsed
In moments of our rapture.

For it picks up where life drops off,
The limits of our being;
We comprehend that life extends
Beyond what we are seeing.

When second site was found to be
Across my lower body,
The world to which I had returned
Stopped in its tracks quite oddly.

Like double takes we often make
When likeness we're confronted,
This second site drew second sight –
The love of God encountered.
