Karaites

The Karaites are a curious folk,
To presence here I just awoke;
An ancient group from yesteryear,
Of Jewish stock that much is clear.

But they don't buy the package whole –
They strip it down, to core they go,
“The Torah, yes, that is the stuff
That gives us life, without the fluff”.

The others have traditions too
As guide in life – tells what to do;
The Karaites hear with interest mild
But don't buy in to claims so wild.

A balance they provide for us –
They are informed without the fuss;
For we from other cultures hear
A breach in unity that's clear.

As salt, and light, and leaven come
Improving cultures one by one,
The danger's we'll abandon ours –
Foundation mismatched with our house.

The Karaites give some breathing room
So we're not overwhelmed so soon;
I see that Jesus in his day
Found that as well, and made it pay.
