That Impeccable Word

My brother lay alone that day –
The rest of us were off at play,
While he was prepped for surgery;
He lay alone, and then told me –

“I had no chaplain, Bible, prayer;
They’d scrubbed, and cleaned, and cut my hair;
This was no little surgery,
This meant I’d never children see.

“But I was not alone, you know,
My mind went back – a hymn I know –
That gentle Scottish paraphrase,
‘Unto The Hills’ brought words of praise.

“For in that hymn the author speaks
Of ‘going out’, and how God keeps
Our lives, and then when ‘coming in’
He’ll keep our lives from evil, sin.

‘The threshold is of great import,
For often when we close that door,
It’s to a life we thought we knew –
To birth, to death, to life renewed.

“Impeccable His Word to me;
It does not lie – its fruit I see –
For I have kids – I’ve three – great fun!
‘Impeccable’ – agreement one.”
