Hung Up On Cash

Problem is we’re generous,
But do it thinking just of us;
We turn the tap on full all day
But that’s just half the loving way.

The finger on the dial that’s love,
When guided from our home above,
Can dial ’er back (restraint, you see,
Is often where the dial should be.

But even there, restraint is bad,
When measured by the things we have
By stopping leaks of our resource
And hold them tight – for us of course.

But good it is when people see,
Results for all increase when we
Let out the strings atop our purse;
And holding back is so much worse.

In dominant society,
To err with generosity
Is not so bad when starting out
To learn what cash-in-God’s about.

For folks in West are owned by cash,
And the things they pile up in their stash;
That’s not all bad; it’s not all good;
But “biased tight” is understood.

Freed up in God the truth to see
(Much better place for us to be),
Puts fingers on the spigot tap,
With love of God controlling that.

For I don’t know what’s good for you;
As faucet of the Lord, I do
What he suggests – turn left, turn right,
Flow out, holdback, despite my sight.

Appearance is the part we see,
And filtered, as it seems to be,
We often guess which way to turn
The spigot tap – can’t seem to learn –

So guidance from the God of love
Helps out (with minds at home above);
When we hold back He often says,
“Pour out resource, for that’s what pays –

“Not just for ROI, my friend –
In ways you later comprehend”;
Or “Stop the flow”, or “Shift the way
The resource flows for brighter day.”

That is a giver’s role in life –
It’s stewardship, though some are tight
Or err in generosity;
A parallel to justice – see?

Though lots try imitating this,
They can’t, so often are remiss;
Like folks perceiver’s insight grab,
As if that’s all perceivers had.

For Golden eggs are also laid
By givers – subject to the raids
The others make upon their store,
Who fail to see there’s so much more.

They poach the eggs, make KFC;
The givers laugh at what they see,
“One principle you grab and go,
Instead of going with the flow.

“You think resources and the cash
Are all, so then you fail to ask
For wisdom’s flow, applied when you
Avail yourself of what we do.

“So, you hear ‘generosity’,
And fail the other half to see –
‘Restraint’ has just as much return
When holding back – both ways we learn.

“Is this for you; is this for me;
This act of generosity?”
We test, we must – so much at stake,
We cannot false assumptions make.

Or “Are you holding back for me,
Or just to make a stash for thee?”
Is just as valid as a test,
Which you must ask, just like the rest.

For if the bottom line is thee,
Resource, restraint – both parts you’ll see;
For both express God’s love to thee
If I’m not hung up on my need.
