Approximately 90 per cent of Manitoba’s hogs and pork are marketed to other provincial and international markets. The province’s two largest international markets are the United States and Japan. A total of 72,900 tonnes of pork valued at $196.7 million were exported in 1998.

To build on its international reputation for high quality, Manitoba's pork industry is implementing the Canadian Quality Assurance (CQA) program. Approximately 1,100 of Manitoba's pork producers were registered on the CQA program as of the end of February 2000.
