The use of environment-controlled housing for hogs, poultry and dairy has changed the economics of intensive livestock production. These new engineering designs have been combined with superior management systems, computerized feeding and climate control. Improved animal husbandry, improved genetics from international livestock breeding companies, product pricing based on quality standards (indexing) and better ration designs have also improved the efficiency and productivity of Manitoba’s livestock producers.
