[ Summary of Quebec Hog Related Policy from original discussion papersource#1, Regulatory Approaches throughout North America p. 2 ]
- Quebec’s Act to Preserve Agricultural Land and Agricultural Activities limits urban and industrial encroachment on prime farmland.
- The "Regulation respecting the reduction of pollution from agricultural sources" requires preparation of nutrient management plans for most livestock operations and cash crop producers. Manure and fertilizer application rates must be based on plant requirements for phosphorus in soils with high phosphorous levels. Producers must prepare and update nutrient management plans, manure "export" manifests and manure "importation" manifests, which are subject to audit by the Ministry of Environment and Wildlife.
- The regulation also establishes provincial standards for setback distances between livestock operations and single dwellings, and residential or recreation areas.
